Snetterton Showdown - GT Cup heads to Norfolk for Season Finale
The stage is set at Snetterton as the GT Cup Championship heads into its final event of the season. With four races across the weekend, and several titles up for grabs, it’s sure to be an exciting few days.
The same trio of entries tops the Overall Title standings heading into the weekend as last time out at Donington Park. On a total of 454, Topcats Racing’s Fraser Fenwick and Charlotte Gilbert lead the way, representing Group GTC. Still within arm’s reach are SVG Motorsport’s Neil Wallace and Ian Astley in their Group GTA BMW, 38 points adrift. Feathers Motorsport’s Archie Clark and Tom Canning are snapping at the heels of second place however, just 4 points behind the BMW.
There is still plenty to play for across the Group titles too, with Group GT3 proving to be the closest so far. Despite skipping out on Silverstone, Paddock Motorsport’s Mark Smith still holds the title lead by a mere nine points from Track Focused’s Darren Kell. Peter Erceg in the PB Racing with JMH Audi is by no means out of contention either, just 28 points behind Kell. With G-Cat Racing’s David Shaw and Greg Caton also in the mix out on track, Group GT3 promises to deliver some very close racing.
While not as close as Group GT3, our second homologated group GTH is enjoying a battle of its own. With 83 points between first and third, it’s possible for any of the three to take the title. Topping the tables is Feathers Motorsport’s Archie Clark and Tom Canning on 412 points, while SVG Motorsport’s Marc Elman and Owen Hizzey sit behind them on 359. Innovation Racing with Cresta currently occupies third position in the title fight, but on 329 points, some good results could see them gaining ground.
Elsewhere, in Group GTA, SVG Motorsport continues their solid showing with Neil Wallace and Ian Astley leading the group points fight from Innovation Racing’s Brent Millage. The two combined points totals from Groups GTA and GTH give SVG Motorsport the lead in the Team’s title too.
Group GTC has been dominated thus far by Overall Title leaders Fraser Fenwick and Charlotte Gilbert, and their form looks to continue into the weekend. The Topcats Racing entry has proven nigh unstoppable through the course of the season, and the pair will no doubt be looking for some more wins to round out the year.
Despite being unable to attend the season finale due to technical issues with the car, Paul Bailey and David Brabham take the Group GTO title, improving on their second-place finish in 2024.
Two further titles need to be settled, and familiar faces lead the charge here too. Archie Clark tops the Sprint Challenge standings on 205 points ahead of Mark Smith and Peter Erceg on 192 and 174 respectively. With Erceg and Smith in the same group, challenging the runaway GTH competitor could be a challenge.
The Championship’s Sporting Challenge is currently topped by the seemingly indomitable Fraser Fenwick and Charlotte Gilbert, with just SVG’s Ian Astley and Neil Wallace remaining in contention. Both have proven formidable in their respective groups, but only one pairing can take the Sporting Challenge trophy.
Track action for the Snetterton Showdown kicks off with free practice and qualifying on Saturday morning at 10.00, with the first Sprint race following later that afternoon. All four races across the weekend will be broadcast on the GT Cup Championship YouTube Channel.
