Quintet of cars complete grid for opening GT Cup weekend at Donington Park

Five more entries have been received as the GT Cup finalises its grid for rounds one, two, and three of the 2018 season at Donington Park this weekend (April 21/22).

Joining Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Lotus, and Dodge in Group GTO will be the McLaren 650s GT3 of Gibson Racing. Drivers Paul and Daniel Gibson are talented historic racers, competing in beautiful machinery like the Lola T70 Mk3B, but will climb aboard something more modern in the GT Cup.

Group GTB will become a close battle between six teams as a second Gen 1 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup appears courtesy of G-Cat Racing, with 2017 Carrera Cup Pro-Am2 Champion Shamus Jennings. Joining him will be Derby-based 22 GT Racing, who have knowledge of a wide variety of exotic motorsport machinery. Experienced British GT and BTCC racer Richard Marsh will be driving a BMW M3 GTR with the squad.

Completing the GTB line-up is GT Cup returnee Saxon Motorsport with its V10 BMW 150 GTR. The team is a successful Nürburgring 24 Hours outfit and will be keen to overcome disappointment at the end of 2017, when it suffered an engine failure at Snetterton in spectacular fashion. Team regular Richard Corbett will pair up with Managing Director Nick Corbett behind the wheel.

Rounding off the entries is Chevron Cars, who’s Chevron GT4 will be piloted by Peter Littler, who became the first disabled competitor in British GT in 2016. Though Peter lost part of his right leg through a military injury, he followed his goal of competing in motorsport and the GT Cup is delighted to welcome him to the grid.

The GT Cup cars will take to track for the first official session of 2018, as practice takes place on Saturday April 21 at 09:05, with qualifying following at 11:50. The first of the two 25-minute sprint races begins at 14:30, with the second at 18:20. On Sunday April 22 there’s a warm up session at 09:05, qualifying at 11:40, and the 50-minute pit-stop race at 16:45.
