GT Cup expands Technical Team
Following a very successful 2019 and an unprecedented number of full-season entries this year, GT Cup identified that good governance is essential to maintain our popularity and we are therefore delighted to welcome some new faces to the technical Team for 2020.
GT Cup’s Technical Co-ordinator, Philip Boland was excited to secure the support of Jeff Lau as Technical Assistant. Jeff will support Phil and Mike Mattison, our Chief Eligibility Scrutineer, assisting them to perform their technical and scrutineering duties, whilst offering valuable experience and strengthening our technical team.
Phil Boland commented; “As we prepare for the 2020 season, I am delighted to welcome Jeff to the technical team. Jeff has vast experience in the motor industry, particularly with manufacturers, an area we are consistently expanding with greater direct engagement.”
Originally from Singapore, Jeff Lau came to England to serve his Apprenticeship with BMC at Longbridge and apart for a couple of stints working abroad has lived in the UK ever since. Having studied automotive engineering at Bromsgrove College, Jeff has worked continuously in the industry both in retail and with manufacturers including; Honda, Daihatsu, Alfa Romeo, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, KTM and most recently as Franchising Manager at SsangYong Motor UK Ltd.
A keen Motorsport fan who, amongst a long and distinguished career, has actively competed on 2 wheels in the 70’s and as part of his remit at KTM was heavily involved with the launch of the X-Bow in UK motorsport. Jeff is now retired and living in Somerset can be found “fettling” his Classic Alfa and Suzuki motorcycle.
The GT Cup continues to support University students gain valuable motorsport experience and have recruited Johan Donders and Nick Deeley who, working with Phil, will be primarily responsible for controlling the data logging and liaising with Drivers and Teams accordingly. The use of data logging is essential to ensure that our technical team is able to ensure a fair and balanced field is achieved.
Phil Boland added; “We have always had an open-door strategy to committed University students who strive to further their portfolio of experience. Johan has already demonstrated his ability within the data team in 2019 and 2020 will further extend his skills and together with Nick; we have a strong team to continue to deliver our first-rate technical support and regulation.”
