A Welcome Return to Oulton Park for the GT Cup

This weekend marks the fourth event of the season for the GT Cup and the first time since 2018 the championship returns to Cheshire's Oulton Park. As the event is only running on Saturday, the one-day format returns with two pit-stop races for teams to complete.

Oulton will boast another bumper grid of thirty-one cars, meaning fans are in for a treat. Be sure to keep an eye out for the SB Race Engineering Brabham BT62 battling with the Raw Motorsports Radical RXC in Group GTO as well as an eclectic mix of manufacturers in Group GTH. If you're a fan of Ginettas, Group GTA is for you with six of them taking to the track this weekend. Plus, off-track, the supercar display will have some extra guests as the S9s car club are bringing some of their fantastic machinery to the circuit.

With ten races done and dusted, the championship points tables are shaping up nicely. Leading the way in the overall title fight are Jensen Lunn and Warren Gilbert in the Group GTC Topcats Racing Lamborghini Huracan. Just two points behind them are the Group GT3 points leaders, Richard and Sam Neary of Team Abba Racing. The two cars may not be on-track rivals as they come from two different groups, but that doesn't stop them fighting for the overall title.

In fact, the top four cars in the overall title fight are leaders of their respective groups. Third in the fight are Simon Orange and Josh Jackson, leaders of Group GTA, while current Group GTB leaders Richard Marsh and Sam Randon sit fourth.

The new Sporting Challenge – only open to teams with purely sporting line-ups - is looking interesting too with the two Simon Orange and Josh Jackson entries taking the top spots. Not far behind them however is Andy Robey who is faring well in his new Marcos Mantis.

Taking a look at the grid in more detail, it's Groups GTH and GTA with the most entrants this time around with 11 and 7 entries respectively. All of the GTH runners are part of our full season contingent so the points battle will rage on. Orange Racing's Josh Jackson and Simon Orange have built themselves a small buffer at the top of the tables but both Feathers Motorsport and Balfe Motorsport's Mike Price and Callum MacLeod remain in striking distance.

There are a couple of driver swaps to mention as two Pro drivers are required elsewhere. Feathers Motorsport's James Guess will be joined by Tom Canning again this weekend to replace Darren Turner. The #22 Greystone GT entry makes a return this weekend but with Duncan Tappy replacing Jon Lancaster as Rich Mason's partner. This brings Greystone's entry up to three McLarens with the #23 of Iain Campbell and Oli Webb and the #77 in the hands of Mark Hopton and Adam Carroll. You'll spot two further McLaren entries in the group, both from Paddock Motorsport – the #26 for Moh Ritson and Tom Rawlings and the former champions Steve Ruston and John Whitehouse in the #44.

It's not all McLarens though in GTH. Enduro Racing will be in representing Mercedes with the #66, while Valluga Racing are bringing their Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4. Century Motorsport along with the aforementioned Feathers Motorsport are in the Aston Martin camp each with a Vantage GT4.

Group GTA remains a strong Ginetta G55 cohort. Sitting behind points leaders Orange and Jackson is the Scott Sport entry of Craig and Century Motorsport's Alex Stevenson and James Kellett. Fox Motorsport and Makehappenracing have finally stopped mimicking each other in points terms with the latter's Stephen Walton and Chris Hart edging ahead after some good results at Snetterton. Completing the group are Orange Motorsport's second Ginetta entry in the hands of Russ Lindsay and Patrick Collins.

Remember the groups are split into two batches to make things easier and safer during pit stops. The third group in the batch with GTH and GTA is Group GTB which this weekend has four entries. BMW fans will get to enjoy seeing the Saxon Motorsport 1 Series back on track as Tom Barrow joins the group for this weekend. Topcats Racing have a new face for Oulton Park too as Jon Harrison joins Charlotte Gilbert in the #3 Marcos Mantis. Team Hard Racing's Richard Marsh and Sam Randon may be topping the tables currently, but Valluga Racing's Nick Phelps will be on the scene to try and claw back the points gap.

The second batch of runners is a little smaller this weekend with Groups GT3, GTO and GTC having nine runners between them. There are a couple of changes in Group GT3 as WPI Motorsport join as an invitational entry and the #4 Nissan GT-R will see Sennan Fielding jump aboard alongside Grahame Tilley. These two entries join Simon Green Motorsport's Lucky Khera in the on-track battle with points leaders Team Abba Racing.

Group GTC sees a change in its usual roster as the #96 Lamborghini Huracan skips a round and is replaced by an invitational entry for Valluga Racing. Michael Clark will be on board the #31 Porsche and will be the first driver to run a non-Lamborghini in the group this year. The remaining Stanbridge Motorsport Huracan will have a slightly different driver line-up as Tim Morley joins James Simons for the weekend. Topcats Racing's Jensen Lunn and Warren Gilbert round off the group.

The final two cars on the grid belong to Group GTO with two very different bits of machinery. Following the first win for the car at Snetterton, Paul Bailey and Ross Wylie will be looking for more trophies in their Brabham BT62. They'll face a challenge from Raw Motorsports' Radical RXC in the hands of Steve Burgess and Ben Dimmack. The pair currently sit just two points behind the Brabham in what is now the tightest group points fight!

There will be plenty of action this weekend, so be sure to keep an eye on our social media channels to stay up to date. There will also be live coverage of all four races on the GT Cup Facebook and Twitter pages.
