Race Report for Qualifying One

Dan de Zille takes pole position for FF Corse

It’s been a fabulous morning for the ducks at Snetterton, with heavy rain showers for most of the morning. Though the rain may have stopped in time for qualifying, the clouds still loomed large as sixteen cars took to the track.

Richard Chamberlain, fastest man in this morning’s practice, set the pace early on in the session with a 2:13.933. Though was quickly knocked from the top spot by the #19 FF Corse in the hands of Dan de Zille.

Having set a 2:11.601, de Zille pitted, feeling as though he’d done enough to secure GTC and overall pole position. Chamberlain responded with a 2:11.681, prompting the Ferrari to hit the track once more. For a brief moment it looked as though Chamberlain had done enough, but on his last lap, de Zille put in a 2:09.370 - over two seconds quicker than his GTO rival. The track was clearly drying quickly during the short session.

The only other GTO competitor, Grahame Tilley in his new Nissan GT-R, lines up fifth on the grid. Behind de Zille in GTC, the sister Ferrari finished second quickest, while the now blue Webb Lamborghini lines up third in the group.

Steve Ruston in the #44 McLaren remained unchallenged in GTH, claiming the group pole with an impressive 2:18.430. Second quickest in the group was the #21 Team Hard car in the hands of Josh Jackson, with the Spy Motorsport Porsche Cayman in third.

The Top Cats Racing team return to the championship this weekend, with not one, but two Marcos Mantis’ and have made a great start nabbing pole in GTB. It looked like pole was going the way of David Frankland, but the 24/7 Motorsport Porsche now lines up second in the group. Geoff Steel Racing, Stanbridge Motorsport and the second Top Cats Mantis finish the GTB qualifying order.

It’s all about Team Hard in GTA as they’re the only competitor in the group this weekend. Though Kris Prosser put in a great qualifying performance to put the car seventh overall, ahead of all of the GTH competitors.
