Race Report for Qualifying Two

More success for Graham Tilley in GTA, Chamberlain back on form

Beautiful sunshine greeted the GT Cup this morning as the cars took to the track for qualifying. Following a tough day yesterday, Richard Chamberlain has come back fighting. Overall and GTO pole positions went to the newly repaired Porsche 935 clearly over the worst of its woes. Alongside Chamberlain you’ll find John Seale. Continuing his success from yesterday, Seale put in a good performance to qualify just a couple of tenths behind. Only two of the three GTO competitors set laptimes during the session - the National Motorsport Academy Mosler failed to make an appearance.

In the battle of the Italian Stallions (GTC) it was a Lamborghini that emerged quickest. Team Webb nabbed pole position thanks to a 1:52.608 from James Webb. Four Ferraris sit behind the #13, with Bonamy Grimes leading the pack. John Dhillon, Laki Christoforou and Graham de Zille finish off the GTC grid.

Grahame Tilley is enjoying an excellent run in his Ginetta, adding another GTA pole position to his successes this weekend. Tilley will start ahead of the #72 Team Hard Ginetta, and the #71 BMW of Del Shelton and Geoff Steel Racing. Shelton’s car was being repaired late into Saturday night so it’s good to see it back out today.

Team Hard’s second Ginetta will start this afternoon’s sprint race at the front of the GTH field. Josh Jackson set a time just over two minutes, enough to put him ahead of the Ruston/Whitehouse McLaren and Chris Murphy’s Aston Martin Vantage GT4.

Valor Racing’s David Frankland finds himself alone in GTB as his only rivals have had to withdraw their Lotus following an incident with the car during yesterday’s pit-stop race.
