Race Report for Qualifying Two

Elation for Top Cats Racing as Gilbert Smashes Marcos Mantis’ Personal Record

A broad smile covered the face of Warren Gilbert following this morning’s qualifying session as he managed to break the lap record for Top Cats Racing’s beloved Marcos Mantis. Finishing over three and a half seconds faster than his only GTB rival, a cracking 1:09.677 not only gave Gilbert a new record within the team, but also put him right in amongst the quicker GTC cars.

Talking of GTC, it’s another pole position for the Team Webb Lamborghini, with James Webb finishing 1.6s clear of Laki Christoforou in the #27 Ferrari 488 Challenge. Third and fourth in this all Italian group were the remaining two FF Corse entries, Graham de Zille and Richard Guy.

An incredible run of performance from Richard Chamberlain continued this morning as he claimed the GTO (and overall) pole position, snatching it from the hands of Gareth Downing in the NMA Mosler. Downing set a stormer of a lap, putting the Mosler 0.8s ahead of the Gibson Motorsport McLaren, only to be pipped to the post by Chamberlain - a mere 0.029s separate the two. Gibson’s third place was also short lived, as a five-place grid penalty means the car now lines up eighth on the grid.

John Whitehouse claimed the top time in GTH, squeezing a 1:10.676 out of the JMH Automotive McLaren. Joshua Jackson and Sam Randon took second quickest once again, with Brent Millage in his Ginetta G55 finishing third fastest. Tilley’s top in GTA, beating Team HARD’s Harper-Ellam and Phillips to the top of the group.
