Race Report for Round Nineteen - Sprint Race

Sam Neary takes second sprint race win, Brent Millage nabs GTH victory

Two sprints from two for Sam Neary as he picks up another overall win for Team Abba Racing. Shamus Jennings kept him honest throughout but the Irishman had to settle for second place.

An eventful opening lap saw five cars spin coming out of Graham Hill bend. John Whitehouse in the #44 McLaren had a moment and sent both Marcos’, Chris Murphy’s Aston Martin and the #21 Ginetta scampering out of the way. Four out of five resumed, but Whitehouse pulled the red and white McLaren off the road, retiring the car.

Drivers up and down the field settled into a groove, recovering well and running a good, clean race. Neary took the chequered flag with just under five seconds gap to Shamus Jennings. Tom Webb split the GTO field, finishing third overall, ahead of Grahame Tilley’s ‘Godzilla’ NISMO GT-R.

Along with his third overall finish, Webb claims GTC honours winding up ahead of both FF Corse Ferraris. Graham de Zille in the #19 Ferrari 488 beating teammate Laki Christoforou to second in the group.

Three from three for Adam Lucas as he continues his fantastic debut campaign. The Ginetta driver again beat the #8 BMW in the hands of Richard Marsh and Nick Scott-Dickeson in the #79 Team Hard Ginetta. James Simons rounds off the GTA finishing order.

A brilliant recovery from the first lap incident by Sander Mortensen almost saw him clinch another victory in the #3 Marcos Mantis. But a visit to the pit lane scuppered that plan. Father Frank inherited the lead in group GTB bringing home yet more silverware for the seemingly indomitable Top Cats Racing. David Frankland brings the 24-7 Motorsport Porsche home in second in group.

It’s the first win of the weekend to Spy Motorsport’s Brent Millage. With all of his rivals involved in the first lap spin, Millage disappeared up the road. Second in the group went the way of Team Hard’s Simon Orange, who finished over 19 seconds behind Millage. Chris Murphy looked to be on for second, but couldn’t hold off the charging Orange - the Whitebridge Motorsport driver had to settle for third.
