2016 Group GTB Champion Webb brothers return for fourth year in GT Cup
22 March 2018
GT Cup favourites Tom and James Webb will return in 2018 as they undertake their fourth year of competition in the Championship. The brothers will once again race in their BMW M3 E46 GTR which will be entered in Group GTA for 2018.
Tom and James made their first appearance in GT Cup back in 2015, taking six victories in Group GTB but narrowly missed out on the championship by 13 points to David Fairbrother and James Greenway. The brothers followed up with 14 wins a year later, en route to the GTB title.
Last season the Webbs added another seven Group GTB victories while chasing Neil Huggins down to the final race for the championship, but sadly fell just short after a puncture dropped the pair down the order at Snetterton.
“We’re happy to be back in GT Cup once again,” said Tom Webb. “The racing is always good fun which is what it is all about, and the whole weekend is enjoyable. We were disappointed to just fall short of catching Neil for the championship last year, but it gives us a reason to come back and try again this time out.”
“It was tough to have the puncture at Snetterton, but we’d also had some back luck earlier in the year,” added James Webb. “Either way it is nice to come back to GT Cup and race, especially with another trip to Spa Francorchamps which is a real highlight.”
The 2018 GT Cup season begins on April 21/22 at Donington Park, taking in 22 races over eight weekends across the UK, with a special trip to Spa in June. Tickets are on sale for all rounds of the championship and interested competitors can sign up for the season at www.gtcup.co.uk.
