GT Cup regular raising funds for charity on Beaujolais Run
31 October 2017
This November, Amigo Motorsport GT Cup racer Darren Standing will compete in the 2017 Beaujolais Run, in a GT Cup-liveried Aston Martin DB5. Founded from a friendly ‘race’ between Joseph Berkmann and Clement Freud in 1970, the Run is now a relaxed journey through a cryptic course from the UK to Burgundy.
The competition these days is for the highest fundraising total, or the shortest distance covered on the navigational trial, rather than pure speed, and with the full format of the event unknown until the first day’s briefing, the Run is is full of surprises for competitors.
Money is primarily raised on the Run for the Henry Surtees Foundation, formed by the late John Surtees after the tragic death of his son in 2009. The Foundation assists those with injuries to return to their communities. For this Run, Darren is also raising money for Crohn's & Colitis UK, a cause that he and team-mate Ian Goodchild have promoted all season long on their Group GTA Ginetta G55.
To assist with donations, Gala Performance have kindly supplied a Pro 40 alloy pop-up awning, some 3m x 3m in size, as a prize, or the equivalent value applied against a bigger unit if required. The company will also kindly provide discounts on accessories and bespoke liveries for the lucky winner.
Entering the contest is simple; simply donate a minimum of £10, and guess the total mileage Darren will cover on the Run. To assist with guesses, he will start in Stevenage, Herts on November 12th, travelling first to a central England location before heading south to Folkestone for the evening. The subsequent day will have an approximate mileage of around 250 miles returning to Stevenage on Friday 17th November.
