GT Cup Hits Top of TV Listings

Sat 04 Jul 2009

Enthusiastic fans have flocked to their TV's to enjoy the thrills and spills of the 2009 GT Cup, pushing viewing figures for the series into No1 slot.  Official BARB viewing figures show that GT Cup has attracted more viewers than any other programme on Motors TV.  Thirty five thousand fans watched Round 1 filmed at Silverstone and shown on Friday 5th June 2009.  Race organisers Bute Motorsport and TV producers Race TV are delighted with these figures which confirm the growing popularity of this new series even though it is now in only its second year.

All eight rounds will feature in dedicated GT Cup half hour programmes, which are aired on Motors TV at prime time on Friday evenings at 19:05 hrs UK time.  The superbly produced programmes are put together by Race TV's Nick Barnett and show not only the race action from trackside and in-car footage but also include driver interviews and insights into paddock life, with Charlie Scott presenting and race commentary by David Addison.

With massive grids full of a wide selection of exotic supercars from all the most famous Marques such as Ferrari, Aston, Porsche, Lamborghini and Lotus, the GT Cup is enjoying huge support, despite the general doom and gloom of the current economic climate.  Founder Marc Haynes comments "While we knew the GT Cup was going well I had no idea our TV viewing figures had taken off so dramatically.  It's just tremendous to know people are enjoying watching and a great compliment to all those who are working so hard to make the GT Cup happen".

Haynes is keen to push forward with plans to bring the superb footage of the GT Cup to as wide an audience as possible.  Working with their strategic partners, series organiser Bute Motorsport is constantly exploring ways to allow fans to follow the action such as the new and much improved website www.gtcup.co.uk designed by 3T Creative where people can watch highlights from the season so far. DVDs of previous rounds can also be purchased.

The next televised race will be Round 3 filmed at Snetterton in June which will be shown at 7.05pm on Motors TV on 17th July.  Those wanting to see the action first hand should make their way to Oulton Park in Cheshire for Round 4 of the GT Cup on Saturday 25th July where there will be two GT Cup races during the day which also includes a round of Formula Palmer Audi and the Lotus Elise Trophy.
