The day began with a press conference hosted by ex Formula One driver Jonathan Palmer who discussed the various championships that were run under the MSVR banner. Technical Coordinator Phil Boland represented the Pirelli-backed GT Cup during the conference and revealed that over 25 drivers have signed up to compete in this year’s championship.

The first pairing is Ian Payne (32, Maidenhead) and Ben Tompkins (46, Chalfont St Gies), both of whom arrive following campaigns in Caterham racing. They have raced for four and six seasons respectively. The duo are friends who met through racing and decided to share a car in the GT Cup Championship. Saunders kept Martin under huge pressure and eventually took the lead at three quarter distance only to spin coming into Graham Hill Bend leaving Martin with what turned out to be a comfortable win. Preview - Round Six Brands Hatch GP CircuitTue 14 Sep 2010 This is the 6th Round of The GT Cup Championship and the second time it has visited the popular Grand Prix Circuit at Brands Hatch. This is ‘multi-marque' GT racing at its best with Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, TVR, KTM, Ginetta and BMW all represented. The cars run in three Groups with the quicker cars in Group One and the ‘less quick' (there are no slow cars in GT Cup!) running in Group Three. The Groups are decided by a combination of a power to weight formula and the overall specifications of the cars. ‘Professional' drivers are not allowed into the Championship and all the cars run on Pirelli Tyres, Pirelli being the sole tyre supplier to the Championship. Round Five Oulton Park September 11th - Preview.............Mon 06 Sep 2010 With the summer break now over and four rounds and eight races to go the GT Cup Championship is looking highly competitive and very finely poised. The overall title is beginning to look like a fight between the Group 2 car of Keith Webster and his BMW M3 on 204 points and Group 1 car of Alex Martin and his Porsche 997 GT3 with 202 points. But Marco Pullen in his Group Two Ferrari 360 GTC is not far off with 175 points and a ‘charge' over the next few rounds will put him right in the frame to win the Championship. So there is everything to play for at Oulton Park and with three rounds to go after this round none of the front runners can afford to make even the smallest mistake and drop any vital points. GT CUP CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND THREE - SNETTERTONMon 28 Jun 2010 Andy Ruhan took his well deserved maiden overall GT Cup victory in race one whilst wins for Keith Webster and Alex Martin plus a win and DNF for Marco Pullen proved decisive for the Championship campaign. Webster retained his Championship lead after race five of fifteen by just 2 points from Martin who is only one point clear of Danny Winstanley who finished both races in second place, leaving him third in the Championship. Group Three wins went to Adrian Watt and Tom Andrew the later being the highest placed Group Three driver in the Championship, in sixth place overall with his KTM XBow. The entry attracted a glorious variety of marques made up of BMW, Ferrari, Lotus, Porsche, Ginetta, Marcos, Mosler, Corvette, KTM and Honda plus some highly experienced driver and team combinations. This was also organiser Bute Motorsports opportunity of trying out its innovative and handicap system whereby variable length minimum pit stops were calculated to help even the score and encourage competitive racing to the finish. The formula was strategically developed to still allow the best team who put on the best performance to win but also give teams the opportunity of using tactics to gain the advantage. The faster more powerful cars are in Group One and the less powerful in Group Three.
