Andy Ruhan took his well deserved maiden overall GT Cup victory in race one whilst wins for Keith Webster and Alex Martin plus a win and DNF for Marco Pullen proved decisive for the Championship campaign.  Webster retained his Championship lead after race five of fifteen by just 2 points from Martin who is only one point clear of Danny Winstanley who finished both races in second place, leaving him third in the Championship. Group Three wins went to Adrian Watt and Tom Andrew the later being the highest placed Group Three driver in the Championship, in sixth place overall with his KTM XBow.

Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit - Saturday 22 May 2010 - The inaugural round of the GT Trophy Endurance Series got off to a bright start at Brands Hatch on the Grand Prix Circuit in spectacular sunshine on Saturday 22 May.  The entry attracted a glorious variety of marques made up of BMW, Ferrari, Lotus, Porsche, Ginetta, Marcos, Mosler, Corvette, KTM and Honda plus some highly experienced driver and team combinations.  This was also organiser Bute Motorsports opportunity of trying out its innovative and handicap system whereby variable length minimum pit stops were calculated to help even the score and encourage competitive racing to the finish.  The formula was strategically developed to still allow the best team who put on the best performance to win but also give teams the opportunity of using tactics to gain the advantage.

This will be the opening round of the exciting new for 2010 GT Trophy Endurance Series. After the success of the GT Cup Championship, Bute Motorsport were approached by a number of competitors who did not want to do sprint racing and felt that a well organised series of longer ‘Endurance' type of events would be a welcome addition to the Bute Motorsport calendar.

This is round one of The 2010 GT Cup Championship season and it is looking mighty impressive and Bute Motorsport ,the organisers, are expecting a full 48 car grid. The quality of the machinery and the level of preparation are superb. This is ‘multi-marque' GT racing at its best. The cars are split into three ‘Groups' based mainly on their lap time performance.  The faster more powerful cars are in Group One and the less powerful in Group Three. Pre-season testing has shown that the cars within each Group are very evenly matched so we will, as usual, see close racing all the way through the field.

Bute Motorsport, organisers of the GT Cup Championship are delighted to announce the launch of a brand new race series for 2010 the "GT Trophy Endurance Series".

 

Regulations are now available from Championship Co-ordinator Belinda Edwards who commented; "We are looking forward to expanding the principals of our highly popular GT Cup to the endurance GT enthusiast with this new exciting series.  The response has been wonderful with over half the grid already signed up for the two race series and with many more expressing interest, it is getting very exciting."

Pre-season estimates for the 2010 entry for the Bute Motorsport GT Cup Championship were somewhat modest and it's been quiet on the news front too from Marc Haynes' outfit.

 

It's with some surprise then that dsc stumbled across the season entry list for 2010, a list which includes no fewer than 48 cars.

GT Cup Marks Historic End of an Era for Donington

The rolling thunder of no less than thirty one GT cars approaching the start line at Donington in two by two formation made an awe inspiring sight. With the second GT Cup race being last of the day and this being probably the last race meeting to be held on Donington's traditional GP layout, it was a fitting finale, drawing to a close an historic era ahead of the famous Leicestershire circuit's reconfiguration to host the 2010 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Having visited Snetterton, Brands Hatch and Silverstone the GT Cup now heads north to Oulton Park on July 25th.

 

GT Cup is having a remarkable season with full grids at every round.  As usual the ‘Million Pound Grid' sees a superb turn out of fabulous GT machinery; there will be Porsches, Ferraris, Aston Martins, a Corvette, Dodge Viper and flurry of Lotus Exige. All part of the spectacular 34 car maximum grid.

Enthusiastic fans have flocked to their TV's to enjoy the thrills and spills of the 2009 GT Cup, pushing viewing figures for the series into No1 slot.  Official BARB viewing figures show that GT Cup has attracted more viewers than any other programme on Motors TV.  Thirty five thousand fans watched Round 1 filmed at Silverstone and shown on Friday 5th June 2009.  Race organisers Bute Motorsport and TV producers Race TV are delighted with these figures which confirm the growing popularity of this new series even though it is now in only its second year.
